Dance FUNdamentals
Creative movement is a way for all children, boys and girls, to explore their sense of self and the environment.
Tots will have opportunities to move, play, and connect with each other thru multi-sensory, developmentally
targeted movement activities. DanceFUN promotes social, emotional, and physical awareness skills in an
energized and fun environment. Use of movement games, music, rhythm, shakers, scarves and other props will
enhance the natural curiosity and creativity of your child. This 30min class is a great introduction for the tiny
dancer to pre-ballet and tap.
Boogie Babies
This is a combination class of pre-ballet and tap. Children will learn to take turns, share, line up, listen to their
teacher and follow directions in addition to their dancing. Creative and imaginative expression will be
emphasized at this level. Basic skills are repeated each week to develop a strong foundation for young dancers.
Class is 45 minutes.
Twinkle Toes
Continuing on the pre-ballet and tap concepts learned in Boogie Babies, this 1 hour class is the next step to advance
your child's listening skills, sharing, following directions and motor development. New songs and steps are
introduced to prepare the young dancer for formal dance training.
Darling Divas
This class is filled with fun, technique, and teamwork. Introduction to barre work in ballet along with proper
arm placement is the focus in ballet. Timing and rhythm while executing basic to intermediate steps is the
focus in tap. An introduction to jazz dance is taught by focusing on flexibility and short combinations. Class is
one hour and fifteen minutes.
Ballet
Technique based on body alignment, proper placement and posture. Barre and center floor work are utilized to
teach musicality, rhythm, coordination and flexibility. Ballet provides a foundation for all other forms of dance
as well as conditioning for sports and injury prevention. Ballet is the basis for all forms of dance and is
encouraged for all dancers, as well as athletes wishing to gain better body control, alignment and core strength.
Ballet teaches discipline, self control, respect and self awareness.

Tap
Tap is a form of dance where syncopated rhythmic sounds are created by the feet in a series of regulated and
controlled movements. The student gains a sense of timing, rhythm and coordination, a new form of
expression, and the ability to work with others.
Jazz
A stylized technique based class that emphasizes long lines and musicality. Jazz dance will emphasize rhythm,
coordination, strength, flexibility and isolation of movement. Class focuses on flexibility, strength, turns and
leaps and jazz choreography. Jazz is specifically used to teach personal expression and help dancers find their
personal style and voice, as well as body control and awareness. Jazz students are strongly encouraged to study
ballet as well.
Mini-Hop
This popular class is designed to teach very young children the basics of isolation and coordination for Hip-
Hop movements in a fun, non-competitive environment.
Hip-Hop
This class is high-energy and fun for both boys and girls who want to learn a dance style influenced by some of
today’s hottest choreographers. Classes include conditioning and warm-up, simplified break down of each
dance step, skill combinations and choreography. All moves and music are age appropriate and level specific.
Students love learning these upbeat dance steps while moving to their favorite songs. Hip Hop is specifically
geared towards self empowerment and positive self talk, using dance to teach personal power and respect. It
also enhances coordination, strength, quickness and endurance.
Lyrical/Contemporary
A form of theatrical dancing that uses ballet technique, use of fall and recovery, contraction, release, locomotor
movements, movements that convey a message or tell a story, use of irregular meter, music, sounds, electronic
music and contemporary music, use of multimedia and poetry. The dancer uses bare feet or sandals. Most
professional ballet dancers are trained in lyrical and contemporary. Today choreographers combine ballet with
modern technique for many of their works. Placement is upon approval of the Director.
